March Virtual Lunch Summary – STC Summit

This month we discussed the changes to the STC Summit this year. We were joined by STC Summit Conference Cochair Kelly Shrank.

If it’s been a while since you’ve been to a Summit, you will notice many changes. This year the Summit is on a weekend. The sessions begin first thing Friday morning and go through Sunday lunch. The sessions vary from 15 min lightening talks to panel discussions to longer hands-on Intensives. Attendees can really roll up their sleeves and practice the new skills they are learning, be exposed to new topics or work on certification.

Our very own Tricia Spayer is presenting a two-hour intensive on producing great graphics. This is something that we all struggle with at times. It will be tough to decide what sessions to attend. Other topics include a series of sessions on AI, Editing, Translation, Interviewing SME’s and so much more. Here’s a link to the full schedule:

Networking is always my favorite part of any conference. This is a unique opportunity to make life long professional connections. The “Dine-Arounds” will be based on topics and different communities and will likely start Thursday evening. This is an opportunity to really get to know people that have already solved your problem and reconnect with old friends.

Another highlight of the Summit is the awards presentations, these will be spread out and more casual than in the past. It’s always uplifting to see what other chapters and communities are doing and to celebrate our successes.

The conference committee has made this very affordable with opportunities to see some sights as well. The Radison hotel is part of the Mall of Americas, so attendees can get out and experience this American icon. The price of the conference for regular members is $795 until April 26th and then will go up. Hotel rooms can be reserved through April 25. Rooms are $189 per night. Non stop economy airfare to Minneapolis from Cleveland is currently around $230 round trip – although there are some cheaper options. Register now at
