President’s Column

Sometimes you’ll have to hold your nose, close your eyes, and jump off the high board.

Hello – I’m excited to be the Ohio STC president this year!

I’ve been a member since the 90s but have only recently stepped up into some leadership positions.

Why now? Well, I’ve always meant to spend more time volunteering, but my kids’ sports schedules made that difficult. But now my daughter recently graduated from the University of Mount Union and my son is a sophomore at Youngstown State (my alma mater). It’s time to put my money where my mouth is!

I’m certainly learning a ton about what it takes to keep our Ohio chapter running and I’m also getting to know the other members better. I hope to keep the momentum going – grow our membership and provide meaningful events and programs.

As we kick off the start of the new chapter year, we’re planning to bring you several options. Our membership is all across the state (and even includes a couple of members outside of Ohio) so we want to provide events that work for most. I picked up some great program ideas from the STC Summit this past May.

We’re kicking the year off with a social/networking event at Michael Angelo’s Winery in Broadview Heights on September 16. Even if you’re not into wine, we’re hoping that you’ll still join us for a coffee or tea or maybe something from their fabulous menu. Personally, I’m looking forward to some face-to-face interaction – especially before the weather changes.

We’re planning to provide a mix of virtual, in-person, and hybrid events – hoping to have something for everyone. A hybrid event is currently in the works and we’re also planning to have a holiday party in December.

Angie Dianetti has diligently held networking lunches and is looking for ways to have these lunches in other areas besides Cleveland. We have about 10 members in the Cincinnati/Dayton area and another 10 in the Columbus area. If you’re from one of these areas, look for a networking opportunity this year.

We’re hoping to highlight other chapters’ events and perhaps pair up with them to bring some great learning opportunities to our chapter’s members. In fact, be sure to check out the STC Alliance Competition. Entries are due September 23 so there’s still time to participate!

If you have any ideas, suggestions, or maybe even just want to talk about your dog (or cat!), feel free to contact me at president@ohiostc.org. I’m looking forward to a great year!

Oh – and say hello to your pet for me!
