President’s Column (January, 2023)

Happy New Year! As we begin 2023, I’m hopeful that we’ll all have a healthy and prosperous year. One of my resolutions is to practice gratitude and take note of all the things that I’m thankful for. I’m thankful for being a part of the STC community and especially for our Ohio chapter members.

In December, we celebrated the holidays with a pizza party/game night where everyone brought their favorite cookie. What a fun evening! If you have a chance to participate in one of our game nights in the future, I highly recommend doing so.

Have you made any New Year’s resolutions for 2023? According to my research, about a third of Americans make goals for the new year. If you’re one of the people who makes resolutions, you’re part of an optimistic crowd — 87% feel that they’re very likely to accomplish their goals.

I’m hopeful that our Ohio chapter will complete our 2023 goals to provide members with valuable educational and networking opportunities. Some of our plans include:

  • Courageous Conversations — a discussion about inclusiveness and diversity in the workplace
  • Take Control of Your Career — the latest ideas for gaining skills and branching out
  • Pub Crawl (aka Publications Crawl) — a round table event where panelists share their favorite publication and how it made an impact on their career
  • Budding Podcasters — lots of tips and tricks to create and improve podcasts

Do you have another idea for an educational program that you’d like to see? Please reach out to me at I’d love to hear from you!
